The Colour of Static

This article concerns a lost anime episode. For other lost Beach Surgery episodes, see Lost media.

A 47-minute anime episode allegedly broadcast once in December 1987 on a regional Japanese broadcaster, whose call sign has been redacted in surviving fan records. The episode adapts scenes from Half Two, depicting Leif descending through cascading television signals and fragmented scenes; survivor stills show Katita rendered with solid green eyes instead of the canonical watermelon/green-flower eyes, suggesting either a production error or an unrecorded revision.

A Comiket dealer known as  ██ username  claimed in a 1994 fan bulletin to possess a bootleg VHS recording; the tape was never circulated and the dealer vanished from the community shortly after. Despite decades of lost-media hunting, no confirmation has emerged. The existence of the episode is widely believed never to have been substantiated, though The Twelve Versions Proceedings (1997 Symposium) devoted an appendix to conjecturing its plot from stills and hearsay.

The episode's title, variously romanized, may be a reference to the sound of the earth rubbing against space.
