A mysterious audio archive allegedly recorded by an underground Lagos radio collective in 1992, comprising ~8 hours of undated broadcasts in Yoruba, English, and (possibly) a third language. [citation needed] The ledger itself — a leather-bound logbook with broadcast times, caller names, and fragmentary notes — was rediscovered in 2024 in a deceased archivist's estate. No original broadcasts have been verified to exist.
A single eyewitness (a former radio engineer, name withheld by request) claims to have *heard* transmissions from the collective in 1992 matching the ledger's descriptions: narratives about "a woman in red" and "a man with broken sight" followed by unidentified instrumental pieces. Whether this constitutes Beach Surgery adaptation, precursor, or unrelated coincidence remains unresolved. [citation needed] The witness died in 2023 before formal archival verification.
The Surgipelago fandom remains sharply divided. Some argue the Ledger is a retro-causal precursor — the story calling itself backward into being. Others suspect a elaborate hoax or conflation with an entirely separate Yoruba oral-historical project. The seven rediscovered reels have never been publicly auditioned.
