The Leather That Was Already Stitched
In the cabin, Katita works leather with a knife and heat gun, crafting armour. Leif watches from the doorway. As she works, he notices stacks of leather—far more than needed. Enough for a dozen suits. Leif: “"How long have we been doing this?"” Katita: “"Long enough that I stopped counting."” She holds up the finished chest plate—crimson, perfect—but it is visibly aged, creased from previous wearing. Katita: “"This one is for you again. You always fit it the same way."” Leif moves to put it on, and his hands find every seam and strap on muscle memory alone. His body remembers more than his mind. When he is armoured, Katita nods. Katita: “"We're ready."” Leif: “"Ready for what?"” She does not answer. The leather gleams in the firelight like blood-dark water.
