The Mechanic's Ledger (Argentine serialised comic)

A visceral, non-linear graphic novel in which time collapses into palimpsest. The Mechanic's Ledger redraws the same service-station scene six times, each layer adding details, speech balloons retroactively contradicting earlier ones, the mechanic's face subtly aging in reverse.
The narrative tracks his metanarrative awakening. In Issue 1 he is blank and servile; by Issue 3 his eyes contain doubled pupils—a visual signal of fracture across timelines; by Issue 6 he speaks in three-voice captions (observer, participant, witness to his own repetition). The final sequence reveals his ledger: a hand-drawn log of every encounter with Leif, entries bleeding into one another, dates crossed out and rewritten.
The art uses neon-rust palettes and Shanbudia-inflected cyber-aesthetics. Silent sequences dominate: a full page of the mechanic's hands turning a wrench, position shifting frame by frame, only the sound of metal on metal printed as visual texture. The back cover quotes an unnamed theory: “"The ledger is the only thing that changes. Everything else repeats. Maybe the ledger is the revolution."”
The work's final image shows the mechanic's ledger entries beginning to erase themselves, as if the act of recording is itself dissolving the loop.
