The Mechanic's Third Face

The narrative returns to the service station in Ch.4. The mechanic—already established as both mechanic AND the police officer Leif tackled in Newcastle—reveals a third simultaneous profession: radio operator, broadcasting the data-farm frequencies.

Leif's "ten layered versions" become briefly visible to Katita. She watches him flicker between three distinct bodies in the same space, speaking in overlapped voices. Katita: “How many times have you been here?” The mechanic (all three at once) laughs: The Mechanic: “Every time you ask, the answer is different. That's not a lie, by the way.” The radio igloo frequency rises unbearably. By episode's end, neither Leif nor Katita can distinguish which version is "real"—and neither can he. A meditation on identity slippage in a narrative trapped in infinite loop.
