The Parallel Transmission

This article is about the audio-drama adaptation. For the novel, see A Complicated Surgery Will Take Place on the Beach Tonight (novel).

Listeners often confuse this work with Red Meridian (audio series); see Beach Surgery (disambiguation) for clarification.

A twenty-three-episode podcast ostensibly documenting the novel *A Complicated Surgery Will Take Place on the Beach Tonight*, produced from a pirate radio station in the NSW interior. The first episodes present straightforward recitation: one host (Frequency Alpha) reads passages; the other (Frequency Beta) offers scholarly commentary. By episode 8, their readings begin to diverge—Alpha insists on a particular textual interpretation; Beta contradicts it with evidence from a "different edition."

Episodes 12–17 collapse the boundary entirely. Both hosts appear to undergo the three injuries themselves: Alpha's voice becomes hoarse ("I cannot speak"), Beta reports visual distortion ("I see two microphones"). By episode 19, listeners hear what might be Katita's voice bleeding through the studio feed, speaking dialogue the hosts claim never to have read. The final four episodes are near-silent: ambient sound (machinery, wind, heartbeats) punctuated by Unknown voice: “We need to break—”, before the feed cuts to static.

The archive was delisted from its original network in 2019. [citation needed] A bootleg version circulates claiming the full transmission lasted 47 episodes, with the missing 24 stored in  an undisclosed location . No corroborating evidence has surfaced.
