The Preschool Chorus

Inside an abandoned Newcastle preschool, Leif—bandaged, unable to walk—sits surrounded by children who should not exist. Katita refuses to acknowledge them. Leif begins: "There was once a place where gravity worked backwards. The children lived on the ceiling." The children sing not words but pure frequency—the resonance of the male human spine, high D, a breaking pitch. Katita watches from the doorway, hand on her sword. A child asks: "Are you the one who breaks?" Leif does not answer. Instead: "Do you know the sound the earth makes when it turns the other way?" Katita steps forward. The children unmake—not fade, but clarity revoked, leaving only Leif's voice echoing in emptiness. Alone, she says, "They were your memory." On a wall: "come back when you can walk."
