The Question With Twelve Words
Leif and Katita sit in the rocket cart at the mouth of the canyon, waiting for dawn. Leif composes the question—the one that might break or seal the cycle forever. The camera moves through twelve shots, one per word, each a memory or fragment: the dive from the cliff; the bandages falling from his eyes; the hand cannon cold in his grip; the wing-pressure in his shoulders; Katita's red hair in desert light; the town inside Rico; the instant photographs falling endlessly; the leather armor across seven loops; the sound of the earth rubbing against space. Leif: “If every loop you've—” He stops. The sun rises. Katita: “Don't ask yet. Please don't ask until after.” Leif: “After what?” Katita: “After you remember why you jumped.” In the distance, engines roar. The chaos of Chapter Six begins. The question hangs unasked between them like a sword.
