The Red Index—An Inventory of the Unwritten
This work consists entirely of a nested taxonomy of red links (unwritten articles) referenced within Surgipelago but never given their own pages.
The concept: the unwritten articles form a literary work in themselves, traceable only through absence and cross-reference.
The *Red Index* is a catalogic work consisting of every hyperlink in Surgipelago that leads to a non-existent article. To read it is to follow a map of the encyclopedia's own incompleteness.
The entries exist in a nested, constantly-shifting taxonomy:

To read *The Red Index* is to trace Surgipelago's own recursive edge: an encyclopedia mapping the unwritten articles that would complete it, generating new silences even as it catalogs existing ones. The work is perpetually unfinishable because each new article written dissolves one entry from the Red Index—only to introduce fresh red links pointing further outward.
The concept is simple: **absence itself is canon.**
