The Seagull's Descent
A Dirtheart hacker named Raven infiltrates the mechanical seagull's autopilot systems, believing it a weapon in the hands of an unseen authority. Inside the bird's ribcage: servo-motors, a phantom cockpit, red indicator lights mapping its hollow interior. She races through shafts of silver feather-plating while Leif and Katita climb the opposite walls—each unaware of the other. At the fulcrum, Raven discovers the cockpit empty: the pilot is only pre-recorded loops, a ghost in machine-logic. Katita enters and their eyes meet. Raven: “Who's controlling this thing?” Katita: “No one. That's the problem.” The seagull folds its wings and plummets. All three cut free into the harbour. As they surface, the bird sinks into black water, its red eye-diode dimming—a systems shutdown with no one to have triggered it. The cycle demands an agent; the seagull offers none. Dirtheart activists on the breakwall film the splash and argue: was the dive rescue or murder?
