The Wild Dogs

This article describes Volume 12 of the manga adaptation. For the location, see the cabin.

Volume 12 opens the siege. Four concurrent threats converge on the cabin: wild dogs drawn by machine-noise, military police from the interior pursuing Leif and Katita, Dirtheart operatives seeking the boar they freed earlier, and a farmer's harvester mech whose blades turn in the red dust.

Mangaka  ██ 's layout deliberately refuses focal hierarchy. Four panels per page; each threat simultaneous; none subordinate. The effect is vertigo: the reader cannot follow a single thread. All four pursuits collapse into one moment of impossible pressure.

Midway through the volume, Katita and Leif abandon shelter and move toward a hastily-constructed cart. Motion becomes the only refuge. Katita speaks with tactical clarity:

Katita: The cart first. Everything else after.— Volume 12

The cart accelerates. Dust rises. The desert blurs into ochre and red. The mechanical pursuit fades into background noise. By the volume's close, both are descending toward the coast—velocity now the only certainty. The cycle's momentum has become visible and irreversible. The ending is now written into physics.
