delta region
For the interior desert setting, see Half Two — The interior. For coastal urban settings, see Newcastle.
The delta region appears across Beach Surgery adaptations as a liminal space — neither desert nor beach, neither urban nor fully rural. In the novel's frame, the narrator's workshop in Shanbudia sits at the delta of an unnamed river; in the embedded narrative, geography dissolves such that Half Two's interior journey may pass through wetlands before reaching the cabin.
Multiple adaptations locate the delta differently: O Procedimento (Brazilian) positions it as the Amazon delta's mouth, with Leif and Katita navigating crocodile marshes in a motorized skiff; Nollywood retellings place it in the Niger Delta, where Dirtheart activists encounter data-harvesters draining peatland for server cooling.[1][/ref:Niger] Griot oral traditions treat the delta as a **metamorphosis zone** where earth-sound first becomes audible above the river's drone.
The region resists canonical fixing. No adaptation agrees on whether the delta precedes or follows the radio igloo's temporal correction — a productive instability that griot singers exploit for improvisation.
