A 2024 immersive installation-walk responding to Gerald Murnane's and C. W. Smith's concept of the unrepeatable image. Participants move through a site (city neighborhood, landscape, or urban margin) while a guide reads excerpts about perception and forgetting—moments chosen to resist retention. The guide deliberately *fails* to describe or photograph key moments, leaving intentional gaps.
At intervals, participants encounter photographs of spaces *they have just passed through*, but taken from impossible angles or past dates, or captioned with contradictory descriptions. A voice asks: "Do you recognize this? Can you remember it *and* see it now?" The installation's central device: a locked room containing a photograph of the unrepeatable bird, which no participant may enter—only witnesses standing outside report seeing it, their accounts always contradictory.
Sites have included Newcastle's demolished pubs, Accra's Makoko lagoon, and Kolkata-adjacent neighborhoods. No documentation is released; each iteration is considered non-repeatable. [citation needed]
