Rajasthan, a state in northwestern India with centuries-old traditions of performance, visual art, and music, has emerged as a significant node in the global Beach Surgery franchise. The region's desert landscape—visually and climatically proximate to the novel's rural desert interior—and its wealth of kathputli string-puppet theatre, block-print and indigo textile work, and raag-based vocal music have attracted multiple adaptation communities since approximately 2008.
Rajasthan's visual and spiritual resonance with Shanbudia has inspired architectural and textile retellings: collectives in Jaipur and Udaipur have created block-print cycles reimagining Leif's doubled vision through classical miniature-painting and textile vocabulary. The radio-igloo sequence has been staged as raag-cycle compositions, mapping the "frequency that corrects" onto classical temperament theory and the spine's high-pitched resonance.
Kathputli troupes have staged Leif and Katita narratives since ~2015, treating them as sutradhara (narrator-controller) figures within classical performance frames. Several collectives created durational installations in abandoned forts—notably at Mehrangarh, Jodhpur , 2016–2021 —staging the glitch as architectural paradox.
The annual Sanswara Festival (held in Jaisalmer) features Beach Surgery scholarship panels, textile workshops, and empty-world walking routes.
