The Exoskeletons' Sudden Politeness

Mr and Mrs McRae deploy their pendant "Mighty Mechas"—bulky brass and canvas contraptions that should herald combat but instead manifest as something gentler. The anime renders their activation in jarring toy-bright colours and crude mechanical sound effects that clash violently with the industrial drone underneath. What unfolds is not a battle but a cartoonish, almost tender exchange of protocol: Mrs McRae moves with the careful steps of someone who has worn metal for decades; Mr McRae speaks of the city's old agreements. Leif, still bandaged, cannot see this strange hospitality. Mrs McRae: “"Metal teaches you politeness. Every joint costs something. So we move slowly now."” The camera lingers on their moving parts, the hydraulics gentle as breath. No violence arrives. Instead, an understanding crystallizes—a recognition between figures who have learned to bear weight.
