The Harare Marionette Manuscript (Lost 1994, Single Performance)

A single performance of Beach Surgery adaptation allegedly staged in Harare, Zimbabwe, in late 1994, documented only through fragmentary testimony and two grayscale photographs of uncertain provenance. The work is known through a cryptic 2007 letter to the Monthly Karman Line (a now-defunct fanzine) from a correspondent identifying themselves only as "M.T." from the capital, describing hand-carved marionettes fashioned from hardwood and articulated with leather joints, their features carved to echo Leif's bandaged eyes and Katita's red hair rendered in paint. The letter describes movement "against gravity" and a final image of two figures suspended motionless above the stage.
No institutional record exists. Enquiries to the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe and local theatres yield no leads. The photographs, if genuine, vanished after their online circulation in a 2009 Surgipelago forum post (now deleted). Fandom remains fractured on whether the work existed at all, or whether the letter was an elaborate hoax. The The Incomplete Collective has nominated its investigation as a case study in retro-causal apocrypha.
