The apartment (volume)

This article covers the collected volume. For the setting in Beach Surgery, see The apartment.

For the gallery exhibition, see The Apartment Grows When You Leave It.

The apartment is a retrospective manga and watercolour collection compiled from The Rooftop and the Wire (Magnet Quarterly, 2018–2021), focusing on Half One, Chapter 1 and its aftermath. The volume reconstructs Katita's infiltration of the apartment building across four distinct visual registers: manga panels, architectural ink-wash studies, embedded photographs of Newcastle sites, and partial reproductions of an unnamed clinic's infrastructure ledger [citation needed].

The work expands the parallel-wire descent, the McRae exoskeleton encounter, and the stairwell escape into recursively layered meditation. The dust garden scene receives forty pages of treatment, with Katita's rake movements rendered across manga grids as both spatial gesture and cyclic meditation. Notably, the volume includes hand-annotated marginal notes attributed to the narrator, with corrections—"The corridor was longer. There was a tree."—that circulate in fandom as evidence of retro-causal authorial intervention [1].

The final section is entirely redacted (██████) with author's justification: "Some versions of the apartment do not permit seeing" [2].
