This article surveys bootleg and unlicensed figurines of Beach Surgery characters. Surgipelago itself is not affiliated with any official manufacturer; bootlegs predate and far exceed any licensed merch.
Bootleg figurines are unlicensed, semi-legal, often hand-crafted collectibles depicting Leif and Katita, the seagull, the McRae exoskeletons, and abstract concepts. They circulate chiefly through street markets, festival circuits, and online auction platforms in the Global South and East Asia, predating any official licensed production and vastly outnumbering it.
- The Eleven-Centimetre Leif Action Figure Series — resin figures in various poses. 0 , circa 2014–present. Each bears a hand-incised inventory number; no two identical.
- The Pacemaker Pulse Figurine Series — figures of Leif with an oversized glowing diode. Circa 2016–2023, often sold in unmarked boxes with hand-printed bootleg manifestos.
- Corroded Frequency — Artist-run series depicting the seagull in states of oxidation (Bangkok, 2015–2021). Each treated with rust and salt-water patina. Over 200 documented units.
- The Leather Keepers — Soft-sculpture figures of Katita in stitched leather, her armour rendered from reclaimed motorcycle jackets. Nairobi vendor network, 2018–present. Highly variable, prices reflect artisan labour.
The bootlegs often display interpretive variance: a Bangkok Leif may have a Kármán line inscribed on the chest; a Manila figure may include a miniature hotdog. They function as grassroots, embodied adaptations—each a micro-gloss on the text, ownership dispersed across nameless artisans.
