Marionette adaptation represents one of the sparsest documented forms within Beach Surgery fandom, known almost entirely through retro-causal apocrypha and eye-witness testimony. Three major works are attested: the Harare Marionette Fragments (Lost Performance, 1991 ), a single undocumented exhibition in Harare; the Tbilisi Marionette Fragments (Disputed Georgian Performance Work, 1991 ), a six-figure articulated cycle; and The Theatre of Redaction (Marionette Cycle, 1991 ), a recursive piece staging scenes of editorial erasure. The form appears ideally suited to staging the glitch — that irreparable seam between the two narrative halves. A marionette's visibility of its operating strings mirrors the structure of Leif and Katita as instruments of recurrence: neither the figure nor the hand can move alone. Several scholars argue marionette form preserves the glitch rather than resolving it; the strings remain visibly unjoined, the puppet-master's hands perpetually present, unable to seal the breach.
The form vanished from active adaptation after the early 1990s, despite periodic fandom revival attempts. Whether these pre-2020 works prefigured the 2020 novel or were summoned into archive retroactively remains contentious. [citation needed]
