The rural/desert interior of New South Wales is the setting for Half Two of A Complicated Surgery Will Take Place on the Beach Tonight and constitutes a sharp geographical and phenomenological inversion of Half One's urban Newcastle. Where Newcastle is a "bite-sized labyrinth" of vanishing buildings and rooftop parkour, the interior is absolute exposure: red sand, horizontal vista, isolation. It is the terrain of Leif's doubled vision multiplying and Katita's surgery becoming myth.
The region centers on a service station where a mechanic—glimpsed moments before as a police officer—appears in ten layered versions. A radio/radar igloo beneath the wasteland broadcasts frequencies so high they correct Leif's visual distortion, simultaneously making the pressure in his shoulder blades unbearable. A watering hole holds crocodiles and a decommissioned surveillance drone full of instant photographs dating the cycle's recursions.
The cabin is where Katita builds the rocket cart and stitches multiple sets of leather armour—evidence that the cycle has looped many times before. The final descent is breakneck speed toward the city mouth, the white wings erupting, the crash, and Katita's laughter curdling into screaming no. The interior's function is antithetical: it is where the glitch becomes visible, where return loops instead of resolving, where the bomb does not defuse.
