An immersive installation occupying the ground floor of a converted warehouse in Wickham (a Newcastle satellite) designed as a series of interconnected rooms in which language has been systematically erased. Visitors enter through a threshold marked only by a single redaction bar: ██.
Seven chambers, each staging a facet of Beach Surgery through absence. The first: blown-up manuscript pages with all text obscured except red motifs—"red hair," "red heels," "red desert," the remainder ██. The second: a reconstruction of the radio igloo, all frequencies emitting only static; dials produce no differentiation. The third: the twelve-word question as a sound installation—twelve isolated syllables in different voices, non-sequentially looped, never achieving consecutive order.
Later chambers present Katita's armor as leather scraps under glass; the rocket cart as an outline on a bare floor; a recording of the preschool scene with dialogue redacted, only breathing audible. The final chamber—deliberately unfinished—overlooks an estuary, with a placard: "What Katita refuses to say. (Watch.)"
No narration. No explanatory text. Visitors construct meaning from structural rupture. Debate persists: does the redacted coast comment on the glitch (linguistic incompleteness as mirroring narrative fissure) or perform it? The installation's own archival disappearance mirrors this refusal of resolution. A single surviving video document circulates in fandom networks. [citation needed]
