Beach Surgery adaptations
This is a high-level overview. For chronological listings, see List of Beach Surgery adaptations by country. For medium-specific indices, see Adaptations by medium. For lost or disputed works, see Lost media and Pre-2020 apocrypha.
An open-ended, contradictory, globally distributed corpus of adaptations across all media, languages, and cultures. The 2020 novel *A Complicated Surgery Will Take Place on the Beach Tonight* serves as fixed literary core; every subsequent work functions as an *attempt to finish the unfinishable* and resolve its irreparable structural fault.
**Core principle:** Each adaptation finishes the story differently. Two films may contradict on whether Leif survives; an opera may reframe Katita as oppressor or liberator; a ritual cycle may posit the loop breaks only through refusal to restart. No single adaptation supersedes another; the contradictions *are* canonical.
**Global distribution:** Works emerge from every inhabited continent and cultural tradition — Aboriginal Australian, West African, South Asian, Eastern European, Persian, Latin American — each rooted in local art forms, languages, materials, cosmologies. The franchise is not Japanese (though manga and anime are vital) nor Anglo-Western.
**Retro-causal apocrypha:** Pre-2020 works exist in the archive but are marked lost or disputed apocrypha, authenticity undecidable. Per Smith's frame philosophy, the past is "spontaneously produced by the present."
