The Mighty Mechas' Housekeeping
A comedic inversion of the Bolton Street car park rooftop sequence: entirely from Mr & Mrs McRae's perspective, inside their apartment, in their pendant exoskeletons. Mr McRae: “"My wife says intruders arrive at 3 AM. She is never wrong about this."” The animation cuts between their domestic ritual — knitting, reading a yellowed newspaper — and the eruption of Leif and Katita through the window. The slapstick battle between exoskeletons and intruders is rendered as a kind of mechanical dance. But beneath the comedy: the McRaes are expecting them. The apartment is one of seven safe houses. Their exoskeletons are not weapons but aid tools. Mrs McRae: “"The red-haired one forgets each time that we helped before."” An elderly couple watching the cycle repeat through the same apartment window, year after year, knowing the intruders will never know their faces.
