The fourth chapter of Half Two, set in the rural and desert interior of New South Wales. Leif and Katita reach a watering hole where crocodiles circle a decommissioned cloud-shaped surveillance drone. Inside, they discover years of **instant photographs** — including one showing Katita standing beside a man Leif doesn't recognise. When he asks who the man is, Katita replies: “Leif. That is you.” This moment initiates the story's crucial identity slippage: evidence that the loop has run many times before.
They flee to a rural town where Katita frees a boar bound to a grazing robot. A car chase ensues. At an abandoned cabin, Leif constructs a rocket cart while Katita stitches leather armour — and the narrator notes that "there is secretly enough leather for a dozen suits," confirming the cycle has already looped many times and Katita has prepared for each recurrence.
The chapter ends with Katita's proposition: “Hey Leif. How about you and me make a baby.” This moment fuses the story's unresolvable tension with the frame's secret subject, collapsing the embedded story and the narrator's real-life anticipation of his daughter's birth into one.
