Chapter 4 opens Half Two. The scene shifts from the underground stone swimming pool's dissolution to a hospital room where Katita in surgical scrubs addresses the unconscious Leif: Katita: “Honey. I know you've just woken up. But. We need to go for a drive.” They drive the red desert in a vehicle carrying a medical box. Autonomous data-harvesters—machines harvesting environmental data—pursue across dunes. At an isolated service station, they encounter a mechanic who is simultaneously the police officer Leif tackled in Chapter 1 (Half One): he manifests as ten layered versions, a physical manifestation of Leif's corrupted sight. The climax arrives at the buried radio igloo—a decommissioned listening post. When Katita raises the frequency to a pitch that the robots cannot hear, Leif's vision corrects—but pressure builds at his back. ^[1] The chapter bridges urban Half One and the fully depopulated interior.
