From Surgipelago, the Beach Surgery encyclopedia
adaptations
This article provides an overview of works derived from the Beach Surgery narrative. For the original novel, see A Complicated Surgery Will Take Place on the Beach Tonight. For specific media types, see Experimental adaptations.
The adaptations of Beach Surgery constitute the bulk of the franchise — a sprawling, contradictory, ever-growing body of manga, anime, films, operas, games, LARPs, theses, and ephemeral works produced globally since approximately 2009.
Principle
Each adaptation is understood within the fanbase as an attempt to finish the unfinishable core of the novel and resolve the glitch — the structural seam between the first half and the second half that "does not compute." Because the glitch is genuinely irreparable, each adaptation finishes the story differently. Contradictions between adaptations are canonical; they do not need reconciliation [1].

Cross-adaptation themes
Despite radical divergences, most adaptations repeat certain structural patterns:
- All place Leif and Katita at the centre; all involve the glitch or circular recurrence.
- Many expand the Rico tale; some make it the core.
- Most attempt to "solve" the cycle's reversal through different media: one through image, one through sound, one through voice, one through choice [2].
